So, here we are talking about what we wish for.
We are wishing for something right now.
BUT, the way to say it is:
wish + past tense
For example:
I wish I didn't live with my parents.
I wish I had my own apartment.
These are both present wishes. But we use the past tense when we say them.

After wish, we use 'were' with all pronouns.

For example:
I wish I were a pilot. I would love to fly a plane.
We cannot say 'I wish I was a pilot'
