We just studied all of the containers again!
Remember the containers?
Jars, bottles, packets, boxes ... so many!
Today we're going to study how to make requests
Request is a 请求
The different between a question a request, is that in a request you're asking someone you don't know FOR something.
For example, in a store.
Can you think of some other places where you make a request?
Restaurants!!
We always make requests in restaurants..
So how do we make requests?
We use the words: "Can," "Could," and "May"
So if I'm a store owner, I'll probably start with "Can I help you?"
That's very very common in the US
Complete the sentences with "can, could, may, have, try, suggest, or should"
itchy eyes
Okay, let's try number 2!
Can I have a box of bandages, please?
Okay ... let's try "making requests" in the real world
What are some requests that you might make in a restaurant?
What requests might you make in a restaurant?
I'd often say: "Can I have some hot sauce?"
That's an important word to practice
Can I have some salt and pepper?
"Can I have another pair of chopsticks."
But if you're speaking English, you might say: "Can I have another fork and knife."
Yes! "Can I have 2 bottles of beer?
Yes.. just like that
If we order food, we probably won't use this grammar.
When we order food, we probably say: I'll have the .....
or "I'd like the ....."
But we make small requests, we use "Can I .... May I .... Could I ...."
For example: "I'll have the mapo dofu, and a stir-fried cabbage. Also, can I have another pair of chopsticks?"
Everyone read that sentence...
stir-fry = 翻炒
stir fry just means 炒
think it's best if you just repeat the sentence above [微笑]
Does everyone know the difference between a normal question and a request?
in English we say: Chicken curry
And probably just say: "stewed eggplant."
Did anyone do the reading for homework?
Pick one of the problems from the list, and ask Annie for help!
Haha, you have 3 customers at one time
Who do you suggest aspirin for?
"You should try skin care products." Good job!
We also have a word in English called "moisturizer"
Kelly asked you another question too...
Your shop is busy today
"Pain killer"
止痛药 is "pain killer"
You could also make suggestions.
For example: Do you have anything for a stomach ache?
You could try aspiring. You could also try drinking hot water and resting."
I have low energy
Oh Annie, because in that sentence, maybe the person answering doesn't work in a pharmacy.
But the difference is not very big...
Very small ...
Let me ask you another couple of questions...
What should I do for the hiccups?
the hiccups = 打嗝
Maybe have a rest?
Oftentimes in America, we recommend that you try to hold your breath.
Do Chinese people ever do that?
Haha... ask the person a weird question?
What should I do for a nosebleed?
"hold you head back"
and plug your nose
Haha... can you say it in English?
Beat the back of your neck? Haha ..
So violent
So tomorrow we start our big review!
It's a really good chance to review, so I hope everyone can come...
It will help you remember things we studied 2 months ago...
So everyone review classes 1-4 tomorrow
