Very different meanings. Very different uses.
Sometimes we hear native speakers use certain expressions. If we don&`&t hear them clearly, sometimes we can think they are saying something that they are not. So it is always a good idea to check a new expression before we try to use it ourselves.
Take - take from one place to another.
Pick up - to go meet someone and then take them somewhere.
We should never make assumptions when we are learning a language.
We should always think first and try to be clear about something before we use it.
A lot of people make assumptions and use an expression or a word the wrong way. They might have heard somebody use it somewhere, but they didn&`&t understand why it was used.
Then, this person will continue using it the wrong way all the time because they have made an assumption.
I go to work by bus.
I take the subway to work.
He often picks me up and takes me to the office.
lose track: forget or lose
I lost track of where I put my glasses. How will I be able to read the paper?
one-track mind: thinking of only one thing
They couldn’t make any progress at the meeting because the boss had a one-
track mind and could only talk about his golf game that afternoon.
