I have a Chinese friend who is not well off. His son is going to be a senior student in high school. I know they pay special attention to it. Most Chinese parents care about their children’s study when they are in twelfth grade. So they sent him to many tutorial classes. It cost them an arm and a leg. But they thought it was worth paying. They racked their brains /绞尽脑汁,伤透了脑筋 for solutions in order to make sure their son goes to a good university.
