A girl I know is preparing for her IELTS (雅思）. I said to her: “how about I’ll help you prepare?” She said, “If you’re trying to hit on me, don’t bother, you won’t succeed.” What did she mean by hit on me? She meant 如果你想撩我，那就别浪费力气了，你不会成功”. So I replied, “ You really think I’m trying to hit on you? I’m just trying to improve my Chinese through talking to you.”

What do you think of my reply? Should I have been very direct (直接）and said something like “you’ll change your mind”?
