5. Solitude(5)
[6] Any prospect of awakening or coming to life to a dead man makes indifferent all times and places. The place where that may occur is always the same, and indescribably pleasant to all our senses. For the most part we allow only outlying and transient circumstances to make our occasions. They are, in fact, the cause of our distraction. Nearest to all things is that power which fashions their being. Next to us the grandest laws are continually being executed. Next to us is not the workman whom we have hired, with whom we love so well to talk, but the workman whose work we are.
[7] "How vast and profound is the influence of the subtile powers of Heaven and of Earth!"
[8] "We seek to perceive them, and we do not see them; we seek to hear them, and we do not hear them; identified with the substance of things, they cannot be separated from them."
[9] "They cause that in all the universe men purify and sanctify their hearts, and clothe themselves in their holiday garments to offer sacrifices and oblations[əʊˈbleɪʃən] to their ancestors. It is an ocean of subtile intelligences. They are everywhere, above us, on our left, on our right; they environ[ɪnˈvaɪərən] us on all sides."
任何觉醒或复苏的希望对于一个死人/任何时候任何地点都没有什么分别。那可能发生变化的地方总是一样的，总让我们所有的感觉难以言传地欢喜。大多情况我们仅仅允许边缘和瞬息万变的环境制造我们的机会。事实上，它们是我们分心的原因。最接近万物的是那组成它们本体的力量。紧邻我们/那最宏大的法则持续在做工。紧邻我们的不是我们雇佣的雇工、我们那么爱和他聊天，而是造出我们的那个工人。

“我们苦苦寻求观察他们，而我们看不到他们；我们苦苦寻求去听到他们，但我们听不到他们；去和万物的实体认同，他们不能从自身被分开。”
“在整个宇宙/他们使得人们纯洁和升华自己的心灵，披上节日的盛装去对自己的先祖把牺牲和供奉送上。那是一个精微智慧的海洋。他们无处不在，在我们头顶，在我们左右，把我们包裹，从四面八方。”
子曰，「鬼神之为德，其盛矣乎。」
「视之而弗fú见;听之而弗闻;体物而不可遗yí。」
「使天下之人，齐(zhai) [通“斋”]明盛服，以承祭祀。洋洋乎，如在其上，如在其左右。」
孔子说:“鬼神的德行可真是大得很啊!”
“看它也看不见，听它也听不到，但它却体现在万物之中/使人无法离开它。”
“天下的人/都***净心，穿着庄重整齐的服装去祭祀它，无所不在啊!好像就在你的头上，好像就在你左右。”
