My Mother Called my Name Standing by the Yellow River
Yang Xiaohua
My mother called my name standing by the Yellow River
At that moment I had walked far away
She called me from the high yellow cliff
She was seeing me off
But I clearly heard she was calling me back
Her sound was vaguer [veɪɡə] and vaguer
At last it was immersed in the roaring sound of the torrents
The impetuous[ɪmˈpetʃʊəs] yellow river had run for thousands of years
How could it be moved by my mother?
But in my heart, the echo of calling was miraculously [mɪˈrækjʊləslɪ]
Deeper and deeper, louder and louder
At last I understood she was seeing me off,
While she was calling me back
She told me when I was happy, I could go further
When I was ever hurt, I could be back home
My mother was calling to tell me
The door of my hometown was forever open for me
Her son never need worry about
What would happen behind him
Pride Yellow river
Why are you called great Mother River?
Isn’t it because there are thousands of mothers calling their sons by your side?
Aren’t you listening to my mother’s calling?
You are great in my heart just because my mother is always calling me by your side
How can you ignore a mother’s calling for her son?
My mother has been calling me by the high yellow cliff
She is seeing me off, while she is calling me back.
