Hi everyone and welcome to today’s podcast
Today we’re going to learn some useful expressions about socialising!
Let’s have a listen to today’s conversation
A: Hey Ben, wanna come over to my place tomorrow night?
B: Ah, I’d love to but I’m afraid I’ve got something on.
A: Oh, that’s too bad. How about going for a drink on Saturday night then?
B: Sounds good. I have a family dinner but I should be able to make it.
Now let’s have a look at today’s expressions
1. Come over
过来
You can just say “come” but in spoken English we often say “come over”. The meaning is very similar.
2. My place
我的家 (我那里)
You can also say: your place / his place / her place / our place / their place
3. I’ve got something on / I have something on
我另有安排
You can also say I’ve got a dinner on / I’ve got a party on / I’ve got a meeting on…
4. Go for a drink
出去喝一杯
When people ask you to go for a drink, they are usually talking about an alcoholic drink, so they are asking you to go to a bar.
5. Make it
来的了
最有用的一句! Can you make it? 你来的了吗? Sorry I can’t make it 不好意思我来不了。I should be able to make it 我应该来的了
