介绍:
Birthday Every year, when we have our birthdays, our parents always hold parties for us. In our parties, we can do many things: light the candles, sing a “happy birthday” song, make a wish, blow out the candles, cut the cake, eat the cake, open the presents, sing and dance, watch videos or play other games. You may think birthdays mean only cake, gifts, and a sweet song "happy Birthday." However, there are many birthday celebrations. In the West, many birthday traditions come from an old belief. It is said that bad spirits will appear on a person's birthday. In order to avoid troubles, friends would visit each other on their birthdays. Today, people still get together for birthday parties. But around the world, birthdays are celebrated in many ways. In Canada, children get their noses with butter on their birthdays. The butter is supposed to make children to stay away from bad luck. Mexico also has a special birthday tradition. A paper- made animal is filled with candy and toys and hung from the ceiling. The birthday child then tries to hit the animal with a stick and get out the goodies. In American, birthday is celebrated with wonderful gifts, colorful balloons and sweet cakes with candles as well as ice cream. Usually parents will hold a party for them, and the child will invite their classmates and friends to come to the party. The people who were invited will prepare a simple gift for the birthday child. Parents are not at home and their children will prepare for the birthday Party. Singing "Happy Birthday to You" has also been a long tradition on birthdays as well. It was written by two American sisters in 1893, and has been translated into several languages around the world. And our Chinese also has something special for birthdays . When a Chinese girl or boy turns one- year- old. It is an important event. People believe that tigers protect children. Family members bring special food and gifts of clothing or toys decorated with tigers. And the baby is placed in the center of a group of objects such as coins, a doll, or a book and they wait to see which object the baby picks up. If the baby picks up a coin that means he will become rich. If the baby reaches for a book that means he will become a teacher. If the baby reaches for the doll that means he will have many children. In China, it is considered unlucky to give someone a clock for a birthday present. Because the word for "clock" means death. When the child at the age of 12, friends and relatives are invited to have lunch , and noodles are served to wish the birthday child a long life.
