Going Out the Passes: First Series
I
Fearful and troubled, I leave my hometown
I go far, far away to Cross Rivers.
Officialdom[1] has its strict schedules;
desertion[2] traps a man in ruin.
Our lord is already rich in lands,
yet how greatly he extends the frontiers!
Forsaking[3] forever my parents’ love,
voice choked back, I go shouldering a pike.
