Smogpocalypse 雾霾末日
hazardous 有毒害的
Late Monday afternoon, the US Embassy&`&s Air Quality Monitor in Beijing was reporting PM 2.5 levels of over 600 micrograms per cubic meter. As of 8pm that evening, the Air Quality Index(AQI) had soared above 600, or "beyond index." AQI levels of 400 are considered "hazardous."
Beijing&`&s pollution level was taken up a notch to "orange," from the original "yellow" classification. This is the second-highest air pollutionwarning level, with "red" coming next.
The orange pollution level requires factories to decrease their production, heavy duty trucks to be banned from the roads, and building sites are not allowed to transport materials.
For Beijingers: has all this smog made you forget what some of your favorite spots in the city normally look like on an "APEC blue" day?
For Tourists: not sure how to find Beijing&`&s must-see destinations through all this "beyond index" pollution?
Fear not — Weibo users have come to the rescue! Following the smogpocalypse, netizens turned to the microblogging platform to draw outlines of the city&`&s most famous attractions. Now you&`&ll never have trouble finding the Forbidden City or CCTV Tower on a smoggy day ever again!
