在上一期的故事中，我们讲到大拇指在干草堆上睡觉时，被一只牛连同干草一起吞到胃里去，这只“会说话”的牛被主人给杀了之后，大拇指还没来得及逃出来。又再一次和着牛胃被一只狼给吞下去了。 "Where is it to be had?" said the wolf "In such and such a house; you must creep into it through the kitchen-sink, and will find cakes, and bacon, and sausages, and as much of them as you can eat," and he described to him exactly his father's house. The wolf did not require to be told this twice. squeezed himself in at night through the sink. and ate to his heart's content in the larder. When he had eaten his fill, he wanted to go out again. but he had become so big that he could not go out by the same way. Thumbling had reckoned on this, and now began to make a violent noise in the wolf's body, and raged and screamed as loudly as he could. "Will you be quiet," said the wolf. "you will waken up the people!" "Eh, what." replied the little fellow, "you have eaten your fill, and I will make merry likewise." and began once more to scream with all his strength. At last his father and mother were aroused by it, and ran to the room and looked in through the opening in the door. When they saw that a wolf was inside, they ran away, and the husband fetched his axe. and the wife the scythe. "Stay behind," said the man, when they entered the room. "When I have given him a blow, if he is not killed by it, you must cut him down and hew his body to pieces." Then Thumbling heard his parents, voices and cried. "Dear father. I am here; I am in the wolf's body." Said the father, full of joy. "Thank God, our dear child has found us again," and bade the woman take away her scythe, that Thumbling might not be hurt with it. After that he raised his arm, and struck the wolf such a blow on his head that he fell down dead, and then they got knives and scissors and cut his body open and drew the little fellow forth. "Ah," said the father, "what sorrow we have gone through for your sake." "Yes father. I have gone about the world a great deal. Thank heaven, I breathe fresh air again!" "Where have you been, then?" "Ah, father, I have been in a mouse's hole, in a cow's stomach, and then in a wolf's; now I will stay with you." "And we will not sell you again, no, not for all the riches in the world," said his parents, and they embraced and kissed their dear Thumbling. They gave him to eat and to drink, and had some new clothes made for him, for his own had been spoiled on his journey. “在哪儿？”狼问。 在一个房子里面，你可以从排水沟爬进去，里面有糕点、肥肉还有香肠，想吃多少就有多少。”他给狼仔细地描述起自己父亲的房子一还没等他说第二遍，狼就迫不及待地从排水沟爬进了厨房，开开心心地大吃大喝起来，吃饱喝足之后，狼想要出去，可是它已经吃得滚圆，没办法按原路返回了。大拇指早就料到了这一点，开始在狼的身体里放开嗓门大喊大叫。“你就不能安静儿吗7 "狼说，“你会把屋里的人都吵醒的。”“你说什么昵？”大拇指回答说，“你现在吃饱了，快活了，我也想开心一下啊。”于是他又开始大喊大叫。他的父亲和母亲终于被吵醒了，他们走到厨房，通过门缝朝里看，发现里面有一只狼，父亲赶紧跑回去找来一把斧子，又给妻子拿来一把镰刀。父亲准备进去的时候，对妻子说：“你站在后面，让我先给它一下子。如果它还没有死的话，你再用镰刀捅进去，把狼的身体撕开。”大拇指听到了父亲的声音，他赶忙喊道：“爸爸，爸爸！我在这儿，狼把我吞到肚子里来了。”父亲听到高兴地说：“感谢上帝，我们的宝贝儿子回来了。”他赶忙让妻子把镰刀扔掉，以免误伤了大拇指。然后自己拿起斧子，对准狼的脑袋狠狠地劈去，狼倒在地上死掉了。他们又找来刀子和剪子，刨开狼的肚皮，把大拇指拖了出来。“嗨，”父亲说，“我们可为你担心死了。”“好了，爸爸，我们分别之后，我周游了不少地方。感谢上帝，现在我又能呼吸到新鲜的空气了。”“那你都去了哪些地方呀？”“唉，爸爸，我到过一个老鼠洞，一头母牛的胃里，还有狼的肚子里。从现在起，我要永远跟你们在一起了。”“就算用世界上所有的财富来交换，我们也不会再把你卖掉啦。”父母亲说。他们亲吻和拥抱了自己的宝贝儿子，又给他拿来吃的、喝的，并拿来新衣服给他换上，因为他身上的旧衣服已经在旅途中弄破了。
