Emma has just arrived in London to visit her friend James.
E: Thanks for showing me around London.
J: No worries. I have a great day planned for us.
E: Will we visit Buckingham Palace? I’ve always dreamed of meeting the Queen.
J: Sure, but I doubt we’ll get to see her. But we can watch the changing of the guard.
E: What’s that?
J: It’s a ceremony1 where the soldiers who protect2 the Queen change places in front of the palace.
E: That sounds like fun. What will we do afterwards?
J: I thought we could visit Big Ben. That’s the famous clock that is on a bunch of3 postcards.
E: Of course, I know about that. I want to take a picture in front of it and post it to Facebook.
J: Then, I was thinking we could take a ride on one of London’s famous red buses so you can see more of the city.
E: Cool, I want to sit on the top level. I bet it has a better view.
J: Speaking of4 nice views, I got us tickets for the London Eye later this afternoon. We can see the whole city from the top of it.
James and Emma sit down at a restaurant after a long day of sightseeing5.
E: Today was interesting. I learned a lot about London’s history.
J: That’s great! Tomorrow, I’ll introduce you to some fun things about English culture.
E: What’s our schedule6?
J: I know you love music, so let’s start at Abbey Road Studios.
E: I’m a huge Beatles fan, so I was hoping we’d go there. I want to take some funny pictures in the crosswalk▼ where the Beatles walked for the cover of one of their albums.
J: Right on! In the evening, I got us tickets to a soccer match at Wembley Stadium.
E: I’m not sure if I’ll like that. I don’t follow sports.
J: Trust me. It’ll be fun. British people are crazy about soccer. The fans have lots of energy7. They sing songs and cheer loudly for their team. It is truly a cultural experience.
E: All right. I’ll take your word for it.
(The waiter comes to take their order.)
E: Hmmm... What should I get to eat?
J: You should try the fish and chips▼. It’s the most popular dish in London.
E: Good idea. I’ll have a tall pint▼ of English ale▼ with that as well.
J: That’s the spirit8! Cheers to London!
E: Cheers!
