We all know we cannot speak without the tongue. So the tongue is closely related to speech. To hold one's tongue means “to keep silent”. A person who has too much tongue is disliked by all, for he is too talkative. Mother tongue Is not the tongue of a mother; it is a person's native language.
“Don't you have a mouth below your nose? “ The Chinese say so to blame a person who did not say what he should have said. But this is not the right way to express the idea in English. English people would say, “you have a tongue in your head, haven't you?”
我们都晓得，没有舌头就说不了话，因此舌头与言语紧密相关。to hold one's tongue，意思是“保持沉默”。一个人have too much tongue，大家都不喜欢，因为他太多嘴了。mother tongue不是母亲的舌头，而是母语，即本国或本族语言。
你鼻子底下不是有一张嘴吗？中国人会用这么一句话来责备别人该说话而不说。但英文这样表达，可就不行了。英国人会说：“you have a tongue in your head，haven't you”？
