artery 动脉 Arteries are very important blood vessels. They carry the vital blood supply from the heart to all parts of the body. A person will die if his main arteries become plugged. That is why a main road, railway or river is compared to a main artery. The Yangtze river can be called china's main artery because it is a large river. Goods are carried along it to many parts of the country. 动脉是非常重要的血管，它把生命所必需的血液从心脏输送到身体各部位。如果一个人的主要动脉堵塞，它就会死亡。因此主要的道路，铁路或河流被比喻为大动脉。 长江就可以称为中国的大动脉，因为它是一条大河，可以把物品输往沿江各地。
