vein 静脉
A crisscross network of veins can be faintly seen immediately under the skin. They are the blood vessels carrying blood back to the heart. Veins also referred to the thin coloured lines found in some kinds of stone or wood. This is because those lines look like the human veins.
The word has still some other meanings which are very different from the preceding two. It can mean “mood ”or “style”. Look at this example:“Helen was then in a merry vein, and she wrote the report in a light vein, hoping that her readers would enjoy it.”
请看例子:海伦当时心情甚佳(in a merry vein),她写报告笔调轻快(in a light vein),希望读者会喜欢。”
