Chair 椅子 A chair usually has a back； A stool has not. A chair with supports for the arm is called an armchair. A chair which can be spun around is called a revolving chair. A rocking chair is a chair in which you can rock yourself backwards and forwards. “take a chair” means “sit down”. Does “take the chair” mean more or less the same？ Not at all. If your classmates suggest you take the chair next time, that means they want you to be the chairman of the next meeting.
