26 of China's 55 ethnic minorities live in Yunnan Province. Out of the five million people living in Kunming, one million of them are considered an ethnic minority. Yunnan's location makes it an important transportation hub for China. It borders Vietnam, Laos and Myanmar. Currently, plans are being made to make a high-speed train from Kunming all the way down to Singapore.
Yunnan is the biggest tobacco-growing region in China. In 2011, China issued a nationwide ban on smoking in public places, but Kunming will slow to implement the ban. Kunming almost always sits between 10 and 25 degrees Celsius. This temperate climate allows flowers to bloom throughout the entire year and gives the city its nickname - Spring City, although "Selfie City" might be more appropriate.
