1. A warehouse in Shanghai still bears the scars of one of China's biggest battles. On August 13th, 1937, the Japanese army attacked the city. The fighting lasted for more than three months and as it dragged on, only one Chinese battalion was left to hold off the enemy.  2. Xie Jinyuan was assigned as commander of such an important battle at short notice. His battalion was new to him and the troops were young and inexperienced in battle. He told the soldiers their mission was to defend the warehouse to the death. 3. The battle had particular political significance. The defenders were hoping to get international support against the Japanese enemy and they showed China’s determination to fight against the invasion. The isolated troops led by Commander Xie were given the title 800 warriors because of their courageous defense.   上海的一个仓库现今仍带着中国最大战役之一留下的伤痕。1937年8月13日，日军攻城。战斗持续了三个多月，随着战斗的继续，只剩下一个中国的营来抵挡敌人。 在短时间内，在如此重要的战斗中，谢晋元被指派为指挥官。他的营对他来说是新的，部队年轻，缺乏战斗经验。他告诉士兵们他们的任务是誓死保卫仓库。 这场战斗具有特殊的政治意义。防守军队希望得到国际社会的支持来对抗日军，显示了中国抗击日寇的决心。孤军奋战，以谢司令员为首的军队被授予“八百壮士”称号。
