1. We are all born with a healthy vibrant ecosystem for our hair andscalp. The hair and scalp are naturally covered with peptides, oils and proteins that protect us from bad germs. Sodium lauryl sulfate and close chemical cousins called organosulfates are the main cleanser in the vast majority of shampoos. 2. An industrial degreaser, when used on hair, SLS completely destroys this natural protective layer. Then it coats the hair with the chemical residue, leaving a negative electrostatic charge which in turn makes the hair unmanageable and dry. 3. Conditioners contain chemicals that neutralize this negative charge but leave a dulling film. Silicones, like those used in car polish, are added to impart shine and a smooth silky feel. Almost every shampoo and conditioner works this way.
