1. Tennis was a major part of me getting my independence back. I think for someone that experiences an injury, especially atan early age, have some outlets like tennis, or you know any other extracurriculars, for me it was tennis or other sports. That really kind of channels your energy into something good, into something better.
2. So when I got back in the water and I started swimming, I realized that I can excel physically in so many ways. Competing at this level to me means that I didn't let my disability stop me. It gives me the ability to face my fears and gain courage and confidence.
3. My wheelchair has taken me (to) more places than my legs everdid and I think that's really neat to realize because when I was very first injured, I assumed that life in awheelchair meant I would be trapped, but that's not what it is. You know, my wheelchair doesn't confine me or limit me, it actually gives me freedom.
