Hello Lulu, what’s the latest update over there?
Morning, Laiming. It was a quiet day for China yesterday. There weren’t much going on involving Chinese athletes, except for curling and figure skating, both took place in the evening.
The Chinese men’s curling team was in the semifinals against Canada, which has claimed 34 world championship titles since the competition began in 1959.
So, even though the boys did a very good job, it’s almost inevitable that China lost to Canada, The game wasn’t ugly to watch at all, the score was 6-10.
China will face Sweden tomorrow and the winner will get a bronze medal. A game between Canada and Britain on the same day will give out the gold and silver.
Figure skaters Li Zijun and Zhang Kexin have successfully proceeded to the free skating programme later this evening. Zhang Kexin did better in the ladies short programme last night than in the team event.
But South Korea’s Kim Yuna, Japan’s Asada Mao and Russia’s Yulia Lipnitskaya are most likely to get the medals.
What else caught your attention?
Well the most important game for the host nation Russia last night was the ice hockey quarterfinal between Russia and Finland.
Finland beat Russia 3-1 and thus eliminated the Russians from the men’s ice hockey competition. Russian people loves ice hockey, even in the main press center, all the Russian journalists were gathered in front of the TVs and watched the Game.
The Russians were considered by many to be a top medal contender, but under the huge pressure of the high anticipation from all the fans, they simply couldn’t live up to the hopes placed on them.
