Ha Wen director for 2015 Spring Festival Gala: CCTV
China Central Television, also known as CCTV, has officially announced Ha Wen director of its Spring Festival Gala next year.
Ha Wen is the first female director for the Spring Festival Gala in a decade.
She has also directed two other such events in previous years.
CCTV's Spring Festival Gala, referred as "Chun Wan" in Chinese, is a variety show aired on Chinese New Year's eve every year since 1983.
The television event has since become one of the most important activities for Chinese families on this holiday.
It was upgraded to "national project" status earlier this year.
The Gala is widely considered the most watched TV show in the world. Statistics show it attracted 800 million viewers in its latest edition.
Wang Xiaoshuai judge at Cairo Film Festival
Chinese director Wang Xiaoshuai has been selected by the Cairo Film Festival as one of its jurors this year.
The film festival welcomes Wang on board as a "most notable auteur" for his latest film "Red Amnesia", which he presented at the Venice Film Festival.
Wang says he is honored to be included in such a prestigious event. He is looking forward to watching more films and doing his part in helping Chinese films' international image.
Wang will be selecting winners for the awards along with 8 other judges.
The Cairo Film Festival runs from November 9 to 18.
Dutch National Ballet playing Giselle in Beijing
The Dutch National Ballet are playing "Giselle" today and tomorrow night at the National Center for the Performing Arts in Beijing.
Giselle is the highlight of the Romantic era and sometimes called the "Hamlet of Ballet". It was composed by Adolphe Adam in 1841.
The Dutch National Ballet revitalized the choreography and presented a new version of this play in 2009.
It features themes of love, deception, revenge and forgiveness between Count Albrecht and Giselle.
Dutch media hail it as "a ballet of immortal beauty, combining a spellbinding story with magical ballet technique".
The new production is headed by Rachel Beaujean and Ricardo Bustamante, with sets and costumes by Dutch designer Toer van Schayk.
Big Bang's Kaley Cuoco gets star on Hollywood Walk of Fame
The Big Bang Theory actress Kaley Cuoco has received a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame.
Cuoco, who appears as Penny on the show, attended the ceremony in a pink top and skirt alongside her husband. She was also joined by executive producer Chuck Lorre, as well as a few co-stars including Jim Parsons.
The tearful, 28-year-old actress said it's a dream come true and she would be "forever grateful".
"I never, in a million years, truly, thought that would happen to me. Not in a million years. I was thrilled to know two people who have them. I thought that was a coolest thing. But to have my own, like my dad said, I told him I was so nervous, and he said, 'This is a one-time thing, so enjoy it. Because it's not going to happen again.' A lot of things can maybe happen a second time around. But not this."
Cuoco is under contract to star in The Big Bang Theory until 2017.
Hit Korean TV series to air on Anhui TV
More hit Korean TV shows will air on China's Anhui TV next year.
On the list are "My Love from the Stars", "Secret Garden", and "the Heirs," featuring some of the hottest Korean actors.
It is part of Anhui TV's bid to appeal to young viewers.
However, not all of them are excited about it, since the shows will most likely be dubbed in Chinese.
The shows have enjoyed massive popularity when they were aired online, where most of them were previously available in their original Korean with Chinese subtitles.
People's Daily encourages better online video games
People's Daily has published an article that calls some online video games "low taste".
It says the games subconsciously legalize violence and pornography.
Power, money and sex are usually the symbols of success for characters, whose "mission" is to save or conquer a beautiful girl. The games are time and money consuming by providing people imaginary satisfaction.
Despite competitive technology on the international market, Chinese online video games are lagging far behind in cultural connotations and creativity.
The article encourages game makers to express values of traditional Chinese culture through their creations.
There are about 500 million online game players in China, making it a pivotal component in the digital culture industry.
Michael Bay in discussion to direct political drama
Michael Bay is in negotiations to direct "13 Hours", a politcal drama based on Mitchell Zuckoff's book about the attack on an American compound in Lybia.
US Ambassdor J. Christopher Stevens was killed in the terrorist attack the US State Department Special Mission Compound in Benghazi on September 11, 2012.
Chuck Hogan wrote the story with focus on a security team who fought to defend the Americans.
Bay said in August that while the next "Transformers" is already dated, he would not be returning to direct.
