Chinese premier Li Keqiang meets Brazilian parliamentary leaders
Visiting Chinese Premier Li Keqiang has met with two Brazilian parliamentary leaders in Brasilia.
They are the president of the Federal Senate of the Brazilian National Congress and the president of the Brazilian Chamber of Deputies.
Both sides have agreed to boost ties.
Li's visit to Brazil aims at strengthening the traditional friendship between the two countries and exploring new areas of bilateral cooperation.
Li is now in Rio De Janeiro to continue his visit.
Brazil is the first leg of the Chinese premier's four-nation Latin America tour.
Li will also visit Colombia, Peru, and Chile in the upcoming days.
China, Brazil to jointly address climate issues for sustainable growth
Chinese Premier Li Keqiang has signed a joint statement on climate change during his ongoing visit to Brazil.
China and Brazil have undertaken ambitious actions domestically on climate change in areas such as energy efficiency and renewable energy.
Both sides also intend to increase the share of renewable energy in their energy industries.
Meanwhile, the two countries have called for developed countries to take the lead by undertaking emission reduction plans and providing financial and technological support to developing countries.
China not to move outdated industries abroad: NDRC
China says it is not seeking to export its outdated industries to other countries.
Officials from the National Development and Reform Commission pledged that the core of the international industrial cooperation is to encourage China's advanced capacity to go global.
China's State Council announced a guideline on Saturday for accelerating industrial cooperation with other countries.
The guideline listed 12 prioritized sectors, including steel, railways, aerospace and maritime engineering.
Officials say the listed sectors have amassed huge competitive strengths over the years, making them among the highest in terms of global standards.
China vows hefty investment to improve Internet services
China has vowed to invest hundreds of billions of yuan to boost Internet speed and expand broadband access in rural regions.
The country plans to spend more than 400 billion yuan or nearly 70 billion U.S. dollars this year, and more than 700 billion yuan total over the next two years to promote network construction.
China has decided to accelerate building of its high-speed broadband networks and improve access in 14-thousand villages nationwide by the end of 2015.
9-story apartment building collapses in SW China
A nine-storey building has collapsed in Guiyang, capital of southwest China's Guizhou province.
There are 114 residents live in the building.
So far, 93 residents have been confirmed safe. 21 others are still unaccounted for.
Residents from nearby buildings have been evacuated after the accident.
The cause is still under investigation.
Chinese, British universities launch degree partnership
The University of Edinburgh in Scotland is entering into a biomedical science degree partnership with Zhejiang University in east China.
The collaborative degree will be taught entirely in English by instructors from Edinburgh and Zhejiang at the Chinese school's new international campus in the city of Hangzhou.
The four-year undergraduate course is expected to attract around 600 students from China and other parts of the world.
The program will offer a curriculum including infectious diseases, neuroscience, pharmacology, physiology and reproductive biology.
Nepal mulling to install quake early warning system
Nepal is planning to install an earthquake early warning system to help alert the public immediately when a quake hits.
The warning system aims to provide people with a few extra seconds to run for safety, in order to save lives when powerful earthquakes occur.
Experts from Nepal's seismological center have suggested the government seriously think of installing the warning system, despite the cost of installation and maintainance.
Nepal is a quake-prone country where a massive 7.9-magnitude earthquake on April 25, and a series of aftershocks, caused heavy loss of life and property.
DPRK claims miniaturization and diversification of nuclear weapons
North Korea claims it has entered the phase of miniaturization and diversification of nuclear weapons, and did so quite some time ago.
The country's Policy Department of the National Defense Commission issued a statement making the claims.
South Korea has called on the North to give up its nuclear ambitions and play a role as a responsible member of the international community.
DPRK cancels approval of UN chief's visit to Kaesong complex
The North Korean government is reportedly not going to allow UN Secretary General Ban Ki-moon to make a planned visit on Thursday to the Kaesong Industrial Complex.
Ban Ki-moon, speaking on his current trip to his native South Korea, says North Korea "suddenly" notified him of the cancellation earlier this morning.
He hasn't said whether he was given a reason by officials in Pyongyang for the cancellation of his planned trip.
The UN chief has been in South Korea since Monday.
Ban Ki-moon had been scheduled to visit the inter-Korean industrial zone in Kaesong after attending events in Incheon.
