Chinese premier arrives in Chile for official visit
Chinese Premier Li Keqiang is now in Chile's capital, Santiago, starting his last leg of the 4-nation Latin American tour.
He is due to hold talks with Chilean President Michelle Bachelet.
Li Keqiang is also expected to oversee the signing of a number of economic agreements.
The premier is also scheduled to deliver a speech to the United Nations Economic Commission for Latin America and the Caribbean in Santiago.
Chile was the first South American country to establish diplomatic ties with China.
It's also the first Latin American nation to sign a free trade agreement with China.
Vessel completes first patrol in South China Sea
A newly commissioned vessel in Sansha has completed its first patrol in South China Sea.
During its patrol, the vessel drove away boats that were in violation of a fishing ban related to the waters around the Zhongsha Islands.
A survey of fishery resources in the Zhongsha Islands was conducted by provincial maritime experts during the patrol.
The patrol vessel was delivered and commissioned on May 20.
China launches support project to attract scientific talents
The Chinese Academy of Sciences plans to launch a new project to attract and support urgently needed talents.
The project, named "New 100-Talent", aims to attract 100 scientists worldwide.
These scientists are most urgently needed in cutting-edge fields in China.
They also need have the potential to make international breakthroughs.
Talents under the age of 35 are required.
China railway police bust int'l women trafficking rings
China's railway police have arrested 18 suspects allegedly involved in international human trafficking, rescuing 12 Vietnamese women.
These suspects belong to two seperate human trafficking groups.
Police launched the investigation after a suspect was found trafficking a Vietnamese woman on a train running from Kunming to Jinan last December.
A special team seized another 17 suspects in Yunnan and Hunan provinces this year and rescued the other 11 Vietnamese women in Hunan.
All suspects crossed the border into Vietnam illegally and then brought the women into China.
Once the women were in China, they were taken into Hunan Province and sold.
Ministry of National Defense to initiate social network accounts
China's defense ministry is ready to open its accounts on two Chinese leading social network platforms.
The move aims to further boost China's transparency on issues of national defense.
The two accounts have been registered on Sina Weibo, China's leading social network, and Wechat, China's leading SNS app.
Both of them will officially start operation on Tuesday.
Over 60 pct HK people support constitutional reform package
A survey shows more than 60 percent of residents in Hong Kong support the Chinese government's constitutional reform package, while around 30 percent percent of respondents oppose.
The survey has been released by the Democratic Alliance for the Betterment and Progress of Hong Kong.
Over 1,000 people are questioned for the poll.
Meanwhile, up to 80 percent of them suggest lawmakers should vote in accordance with public opinion.
UNICEF warns of malnutrition risk in Nepal after earthquakes
The United Nations International Children's Emergency Fund estimates around 70-thousand children in Nepal are at risk of malnutrition and require urgent humanitarian support.
This is due to the massive earthquake and its aftershocks that hit the country over the past month.
Currently, UNICEF is working to provide urgent food and care to protect the lives of these children.
The organization has added that millions of children in Nepal remain in urgent need of humanitarian aid, with the risk of long-term physical and emotional trauma climbing.
Syrian air force strikes IS targets in ancient Palmyra city
The Syrian air force has struck positions of Islamic State militants in Palmyra, central Syria.
Government warplanes carried out airstrikes on IS positions in the ancient city on Monday.
The government said the Syrian army would launch a counter offensive to recapture Palmyra.
The IS captured Palmyra last Wednesday.
The terrorist group massacred about 400 people in Palmyra, mostly women and children.
Former Israeli PM gets additional 8-month sentence over corruption
Former Israeli Prime Minister Ehud Olmert has been sentenced to 8 months in prison.
This follows his recent conviction in a Jerusalem District Court for corruption.
His lawyers say they will appeal the latest verdict.
The former prime minister was also given a fine of 25-thousand U.S. dollars during his sentencing.
Olmert was convicted in the so-called Talansky Affair in March on charges of fraud, after the state decided to retry the case.
Olmert had served as prime minister between 2006 and 2009.
He announced his resignation in 2008 as corruption allegations started to surface against him.
