China's largest taxi-hailing app by market share, Didi Kuaidi, is going to launch a car pooling service this month in 26 cities in the country.
The new service allows commuters living in nearby neighborhoods share their rides.
The car fare starts between 5 yuan, or 81 US cents and 10 yuan, and passengers pay an additional one yuan for each kilometer.
The launch of the new service comes after a month of trials here in Beijing.
The car-pooling service aims to get facilitate one million shared rides this year.
Didi Kuaidi will offer 500-thousand yuan or 80-thousand U.S. dollars insurance for passengers and drivers for each trip.
The company has some 160 million users and provides nearly 6 million rides a day.
