John Lennon's long lost guitar is to go up for auction as part of Julien's Auctions Icons and Idols Rock N Roll Event.
The Gibson J-160 E acoustic guitar is considered to be one of Lennon's favourites and was used on several of the Beatles' early recordings.
Andy Babiuk, author of the book Beatles Gear - All The Fab Four's Instruments From Stage to Studio says the guitar was behind many hits.
"Lennon got the guitar in 1962, it was custom ordered for him, he and George Harrison got a pair of matching Gibson J-160E guitars, which were flown in from the United States to Liverpool and they picked them up and he used it aggressively, like literally the next day they used it to record their first hit single 'Love me Do"
The guitar went missing after one of the band's shows in 1963 and remained missing for around fifty years. It was discovered by a John McCaw, who bought the guitar and realized it could belong to an actual Beatle. It was tested and confirmed.
The guitar will go up for auction during the two day sale at Julien's Auctions in Beverly Hills on November 6 and 7. It is expected to fetch 600,000 to 800,000 dollars.
