America beat Australia 3-1 to win its Women's World Cup opener in Winnipeg on Monday.
Megan Rapinoe opened and closed the scoring to secure USA with the win.
The 30-year-old Rapinoe offered these thoughts on team USA's performance.
"I don't think we played that well today. I think we can be a lot better in possession and just a lot more confident on the ball. I think we are better than we played today and got caught going long when we need to settle it down. I think the times when we did settle it down we had highlights in possession."
America remained unbeaten against Australia.
They won 22 and tied twice in the 24 previous meetings.
The victory moves the USA to the top of Group D after Nigeria and Sweden drew their opening match 3-3.
USA will next take on Sweden on Friday while Australia will face Nigeria.
