China to advance global growth, financial stability at G20 summit in 2016 Chinese Vice Premier Zhang Gaoli says that China will work to enable the G20 summit to play an important role in promoting global economic growth and maintaining the stability of the international financial market. Zhang Gaoli made the remarks when addressing the annual meeting of the St. Petersburg International Economic Forum in Russia. The vice premier also says that China looks forward to hosting the G20 summit in 2016. He says effort should be made to improve the global economic governance system on the basis of fairness, justice, inclusiveness and order. Russian President Vladimir Putin, plus thousands of business persons and government officials from the world over have also attended the meeting. Chinese vice premier calls for further Sino-U.S. exchange in education Chinese Vice Premier Liu Yandong has stressed on the importance of educational exchange between China and the United States. Liu made the remarks while visiting the Confucius Institute in the University of Pittsburgh in U.S. state of Pennsylvania. According to the Chinese vice premier, more than 300 million people in China are learning English. Liu adds over 480 Confucius Institutes and nearly 900 Confucius Classrooms have been established in 133 countries, with more than 3.5 million students enrolled. Liu has also announced that the Chinese government will invite 50 students from the Confucius Institute at Pittsburgh University to take part in "Chinese Bridge Summer Camp" in China. Firefighters put out primeval forest fire in Inner Mongolia A forest fire which has been burning in Inner Mongolia for the past few days has been fully contained. The blaze, whcih broke out on Thursday, consumed about 25 hectares of forest in the Hulun Buir region, which is in the extreme northeast of Inner Mongolia along the border with both Mongolia and Russia. Around 400 firefighters, along with 4 helicopters, were mobilized to tackle the blaze. The fire was a considerable distance from the nearest community in the region. It's believed the blaze was sparked by lightening. Securities regulator fired for husband's illegal trading The China Securities Regulatory Commission has been forced to sack one of its officials in connection with illegal stock trades made by her husband. Li Zhiling was a section chief with the CSRC's stock issuance supervision department. The nature of the allegations against her and her husband have not been revealed. The CSRC does say the case has been handed over to judicial authorities. Li Zhiling had once been in charge of the review of financing and legal procedures for China's Growth Enterprise Market. Nearly 1 million people face food insecurity risk in Nepal: UN agency The Food and Agriculture Organization is calling for urgent help for farmers in earthquake-hit Nepal. A UN spokesperson says one million people face the risk of prolonged food insecurity in Nepal. FAO has received around 3 million dollars for emergency relief so far, only 13 percent of the 23 million dollars it has asked for. Two separate earthquakes and a series of aftershocks struck Nepal in April and May, killing more than 8-thousand people and devastating large parts of the country. 10 confirmed dead after shootout in northern Mexico beer hall Ten people are dead after a mass shooting at a beer hall in northern Mexico. Local authorities say the shooters stole the equivilant of around 650 US dollars before fleeing. However, it's unclear at this point if robbery was the motive behind the attack. Northern Mexico is home to numerous drug cartels who operate trafficking rings across the US border. Mexican authorities have yet to formally identify the victims. UN to celebrate first-ever International Day of Yoga The United Nations says the first-ever International Day of Yoga will be observed on June 21 with worldwide events in a bid to raise awareness of the many benefits of practicing yoga. The UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon says yoga offers a simple, accessible and inclusive means to promote physical and spiritual health and well-being. A draft resolution establishing the International Day of Yoga was proposed by India. The UN proclaimed June 21 as International Yoga Day on December 11, 2014. China issues storm alert for Dragon Boat Festival holiday A heavy-rain warning is now in effect in southern and central China. Torrential rains are pounding the central parts of Guizhou and the western areas of Hunan. Local authorities are on alert for flooding and landslides. The weather warning is currently at blue. This is the lowest of the four-tiered colored warning system in China for severe weather events. Airbus A380 deployed on Beijing-Amsterdam route China Southern Airlines has put one of its Airbus A380's on the route linking Beijing with the city of Amsterdam in the Netherlands. The world's largest passanger plane is replacing the A330 currently servicing the route.
