NBA: Jeremy Lin signs 2-year $4.25-Million contract with Charlotte Hornets
First up some basketball news from NBA,
Free agent guard Jeremy Lin has been officially introduced as the newest member of the Charlotte Hornets.
The 26-year-old Taiwan player agreed to a two-year deal on Wednesday with the Hornets that will pay him around 4.3 million USD.
In the second half of the 2011-12 season with the New York Knicks, Lin turned from a waiver-wire pickup to a late season phenomenon with a knack for big shots and solid production, averaging 14.4 points per game.
After the 2012 season he left the New York Knicks spent two seasons with the Houston Rockets.
Lin said he has no regrets about his leaving.
"You know in Summer League it was like I only had one team that offered me a spot on roster on the Summer League team and same thing with New York like I only had one contract offer and it actually wasn't from New York, it was from Houston. So, even if I did want to go back to New York there was no contract to sign. So it was very obvious I think this free agency situation is the exact same thing I thought it was another team the whole time and then like that just wasn't an option this came out of nowhere at the end indeed. So, no regrets. I know exactly like as long as I have the peace inside of knowing this is where God wants me I'm perfectly okay."
Since leaving the New York Knicks, where Linsanity originated, Lin hasn't lived up to the promise that he originally showed, but he's hoping he can kick-start his career in North Carolina under Hornets coach Steve Clifford.
Lin said the "Linsanity" era has gone and he's a much improved player now.
"I do believe like I am a more refined player more all around player I do think the work I've put in has made me better I just don't think I've had the same fit or opportunity and that doesn't mean that I don't have a ton of areas to get better at, because I do, but I think one thing that I want to do is just kind of see how close I can get to reaching my full potential."
The Hornets were last in the NBA in 3-point shooting in 2014-15 and the team has made three pre-draft trades with that in mind.
One-third of Charlotte's roster has already changed from last season.

Real Madrid train in Melbourne on pre-season trip

Real Madrid have been training in Melbourne ahead of a round-robin tournament with England's Manchester City and Italian Series A club Roma starting this weekend.
The Spanish giants arrived in Australia overnight on Monday to participate in the International Champions Cup.
This year's ICC involves 15 teams across three editions, with games also being played in China and in the United States.
Madrid will kick off the Australian edition of the ICC against Roma before, six days later, meeting City at Melbourne Cricket Ground.
China's Che wins table tennis women's singles at Universiade
Over to Gwangju Universiade wrapping up in South Korea,
China's Che Xiaoxi defeated her teammate Jiang Yue 4-1 to win the women's singles table tennis at the Summer University Games.
South Korea's Yang Ha-eun and Szocs Romanian player Bernadette Cynthia shared third place.
In men's singles,
Morizono Masataka of Japan beat his teammate Oshima Yuya 4-1 to win the gold, while China's Liu Yi and South Korea's Lee Sang-su both placed third.
China topped the Universiade table tennis medal table with four golds, one silver and two bronzes, followed by Japan and Chinese Taipei both with 1-3-2.
South Korea settled for the fourth place with 1-0-5.
Hall of Fame induction ceremony takes place at St Andrews
In golf,
Laura Davies, David Graham, Mark O'Meara and A.W. Tillinghast were inducted into golf's Hall of Fame on Monday in St Andrews, Scotland, ahead of the Open Championship.
Davies has won over 70 times and is a four-time LPGA major champion. She couldn't be there to pick up the award but sent a heart-felt video message.
Australia's David Graham was present - he won the 1979 PGA Championship and the 1981 US Open.
Mark O'Meara put his name in the history books in 1998 when he won the Masters and the Open Championship in the same year.
Finally, A.W. Tillinghast was born in 1874 and took lessons from Old Tom Morris.
Some of the courses he designed - like Bethpage State Park, Winged Foot and San Francisco Golf Club - are still used to host major championships.

Jordan Spieth comes into the 144th Open Championship at St. Andrews looking to become the first player since Ben Hogan, in 1953, to win the first three major events of a year.
Spieth, who followed a maiden major success in the Masters by winning the US Open, comes into the Open Championship on the back of another victory over the weekend, at the John Deere Classic.
A trans-atlantic flight followed for Spieth, but the 21-year-old American doesn't believe jet-lag will stop him competing for the 'Claret Jug'.
Tiger Woods was the last player to win the first two majors of a year, back in 2002.
However, Woods will have to find his top form quickly if he is to pick up a fourth Open Championship title.
Rio prepares to host the Volleyball World League as part of 2016 Olympic test
In Olympic news,
With 389 days to go, Rio de Janeiro is getting ready for a number of test events that will start this week through to 2016.
The first one will be Volleyball's FIVB World League, which starts on Wednesday and finishes on Sunday this week.
Giovane Gavio, Rio 2016' Volleyball Competition manager says since it's a tournament organised by the International Volleyball Federation, they will only test the court operation and not be able to test ticketing and logistics.
"We will not be testing logistics, ticketing, food and beverage and workforce at this event because this is not our event. It's an event where we participate in some areas. We selected this area (court operations) we consider the most important for the size of this event."
Maracanazinho Arena, located in the same sports complex where Maracana football stadium is, is said to be almost ready for next year's Olympic Games, with a few details to be adjusted.
Brazil will face France and Serbia will entertain Italy in some of the matches.
