HBO has officially announced there will be at least eight seasons of its hit fantasy drama "Game of Thrones".
HBO president Michael Lombardo made the revelation during a press conference at the Television Critics Association.
HBO has aired five seasons of the hit show. Lombardo said the question is how many more seasons beyond the seventh the network is going to make.
Lombardo has previously gone on record saying he would "love the show to go 10 years as both a fan and a network executive."
He added he would welcome a spinoff or a prequel to the show but no conversations had taken place yet.
The hit drama has drawn a record 8.1 million viewers for Season 5 finale, nearly one million more than the previous season's finale.
The Season 5 finale ended with a death of a beloved character John Snow, which stirred quite a debate on the character's fate.
In response to the question, Lombardo said, "Dead is dead is dead", suggesting that Snow was indeed dead in the finale.
However, John Snow actor Kit Harrington has been repeatedly seen arriving at the shooting site of the new season of "Game of Thrones".
It's still unclear at the moment if Snow will resuscitate in the upcoming season.
