China and ASEAN work together to uphold regional peace and stability: Chinese FM
Chinese Foreign Minister says China and ASEAN member states are capable of working together to maintain peace and stability in the South China Sea.
Wang Yi made the remarks in Kuala Lumpur, where he is attending the ASEAN Regional Forum, an annual Asian security gathering.
Wang Yi said other countries should support ASEAN and China to implement the Declaration on the Conduct of Parties in the South China Sea properly.
The 48th ASEAN Foreign Ministers' Meeting opened on Tuesday in Kuala Lumpur.
China says TPP should be open and transparent
A Chinese official said on Tuesday that China hopes the Trans-Pacific Partnership, TPP, can be transparent and open and contribute to free trade and investment along with other arrangements in the region.
Shen Danyang, spokesman with the Ministry of Commerce, said China has been closely watching TPP negotiations and assessing the progress.
Trade representatives from 12 Pacific Rim countries failed to reach a final deal on Friday.
The TPP talks involve Australia, Brunei, Canada, Chile, Japan, Malaysia, Mexico, New Zealand, Peru, Singapore, the United States and Vietnam.
China to launch Jilin-1 satellite in Oct.
Northeast China's Jilin Province is planning to send Jilin-1, the country's first self-developed remote sensing satellite for commercial use, into space in October.
Jilin-1 consists of four satellites, one for high-definition images, one for testing new space technology and another two for video.
The satellites will focus on providing photographs to commercial clients, while helping with harvest assessment, geological disaster prevention and resource surveys.
Former Yunnan vice governor tried for bribery
Shen Peiping, former vice governor of southwest China's Yunnan Province, stood trial on Tuesday in Beijing for taking bribes.
The Beijing First Intermediate People's Court says Shen was accused of taking advantage of his post to seek profit for others and accepting bribes worth more than 15 million yuan or over 2.6 million U.S. dollars from 2000 to 2012.
Shen confessed in court.
The verdict will be announced at a later date.
Shanxi to turn WWII camp into museum
A World War II Japanese camp in Northern China's Shanxi Province is being turned into a museum.
The camp was used to conduct bacteria experiments on Chinese civilians and prisoners of war.
The remains of the site are two lines of brick buildings.
Built in 1938, the camp imprisoned 100,000 to 120,000 Chinese soldiers, militiamen and civilians.
Japan to suspend Okinawa U.S. base relocation work
The Japanese government announced on Tuesday that it will temporarily suspend planned relocation work of a U.S. military base within Okinawa Prefecture.
This is to defuse tensions with local authorities on the standoff over the planned relocation of US Marine Corps' Air Station.
Chief Cabinet Secretary Yoshihide Suga said the central government plans to hold "intensive consultations" with the local government to resolve the issue.
The Japanese government and the U.S. forces in Japan have agreed to move the Futenma base from a densely populated area in Ginowan to the less populated Henoko district of Nago, but the plan has triggered strong opposition from local residents.
S. Korean health minister replaced by doctor after MERS
South Korea's Minister of Health and Welfare Moon Hyung-pyo was replaced on Tuesday by a veteran doctor after the outbreak of Middle East Respiratory Syndrome, or MERS.
The president's office said that President Park Geun-hye nominated Jeong Jin-yeop as a new health minister.
Jeong is a doctor at Seoul National University Hospital in Bundang, Gyeonggi province.
Jeong has worked at the university hospital for 25 years.
13 Indians joins IS, 6 got killed: report
India's NDTV has reported that some 13 Indian nationals have joined the Islamic State over the past year and a half with six of them killed in action.
The remaining seven recruits include two from a group of four that left the country in May from Mumbai, and three young Indian men who lived in Australia, Oman and Singapore.
During the weekend, the Indian government held a high-level meeting to discuss the growing threat of IS, a terror group that controls much of Iraq and Syria.
Iraqi defence minister meets UK counterpart
Iraqi Defence Minister Khaled al-Obeidi has held talks with his British counterpart Michael Fallon in Baghdad on Monday evening.
The pair discussed Britain's continued support in fighting the Islamic State group militants.
Britain is currently part of the US-led coalition that is taking part in airstrikes against the militants in Iraq.
21 injured in explosion caused by fire in Northern Germany
At least 21 people have been injured in an explosion in a building in the northern German city of Hamburg on Tuesday morning.
A spokesman for the city's fire department says the fire broke out early in the morning in a carpentry workshop in a former bunker building.
