Athletic Bilbao beat Barcelona 5-1 on aggregate to win the Super Cup on Monday.
After thrashing Barca 4-nil in the first leg on Friday, Athletic held the Catalans to a 1-1 draw to hoist the trophy.
Barca did have comeback hopes--Lionel Messi scored the opener for the Catalans before half-time.
But Athletic's Aritz Aduriz, who scored a hattrick in leg one, equalized in the 74th minute for the tie and aggregate win.
Athletic coach, Ernesto Valverde, on how his side downed the La Liga and European champs:
"They were coming from playing a Europe Super Cup, and we the San Mames game. We played a strong game, a tight game, and the truth is that we won a game by 4 goals. That, in the end, is what we came to do here. But of course, the team's courage is incredible, more than anything for the importance of the rivaly."
Meanwhile, Barcelona defender, Dani Alves, says they need time to get back into championship form:
"We still need time to get the rhythm back. We still need time to get back to how we were playing at the end of the season. But it's what it is and we must be as tight as ever because in the end it's a continuous race."
Athletic hoisted their first trophy in 31 years.
