IndyCar driver Justin Wilson died on Monday night from a head injury suffered when a piece of debris struck him at Pocono Raceway in Pennsylvania on Sunday.
He was 37.
Wilson, a British driver who lived in the U.S. state of Colorado, was hit on the head during Sunday's race by a piece of debris that had broken off another car.
Wilson's car veered into an interior wall at the track, and he was swiftly taken by helicopter to a nearby hospital.
Indy car driver, Ed Carpenter, says this about Wilson:
"Obviously Justin was a great professional driver and extremely good at his craft. Beyond that he was a great guy. One of the few, if only, guys that really was a friend among everyone in the paddock and competitors, and respected for the way that he carried himself."
IndyCar made the announcement at Indianapolis Motor Speedway.
