China contributes 30 pct to global growth in H1, no hard landing: Premier Chinese Premier Li Keqiang says China was responsible for around 30 percent of world economic growth during the first half of this year. Li notes, amid a slowing world economy, China's 7 percent growth during the first half of this year was not an easy achievement. He adds that the world's second largest economy will not make a "hard landing". The Premier made the remarks today at the opening ceremony of the Summer Davos forum in northeastern Dalian city. This year's forum focuses on innovation and entrepreneurship with more than 1,700 business leaders and experts from over 90 countries. Vietnamese deputy PM to visit China, attend China-ASEAN Expo Vietnamese Deputy Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc will pay an official visit to China and attend the 12th China-ASEAN Expo from Sept. 16 to 20. During the visit, Phuc will hold talks with vice premier Zhang Gaoli in Beijing, and attend the opening ceremony of the China-ASEAN EXPO in Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region. The CAEXPO between China and 10-member ASEAN is hosted every year in Nanning city. This year's expo will feature more than 4,000 booths, including more than 200 booths from 100 Vietnamese companies. PLA to clear mines along China-Vietnam border A de-mining mission along the China-Vietnam border has been approved by the State Council and the Central Military Commission. The mission will be carried out along the southwestern border areas in Yunnan Province and Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region. It will finish by the end of 2017. Many of the team members have participated in de-mining operations as part of UN peacekeeping missions. Local governments will give progress reports to the public, and guarantee local residents' safety. Two other mine clearing missions along the China-Vietnam border occurred from 1992 to 1994, and 1997 to 1999. China will need 100,000 pilots over next 2 decades: Boeing Boeing Commercial Airplanes forecasts China will need at least 100,000 new civil aviation pilots over the next 20 years. Boeing says the Asia-Pacific region will have approximately 40 percent of the global need for commercial airline pilots and technicians. Boeing adds China's needs will account for the largest share, adding that around 106,000 airline maintenance technicians will be necessary over the coming years. China funds West Africa's largest referral hospital in Niger The capital of Niger will soon have the largest referral hospital in West Africa. The construction has been funded by China. The country's President visited the construction site on Wednesday and said he was satisfied with the pace of construction, which is expected to be completed in the next few months. The hospital will have a capacity of over 500 beds. It will offer all services, including emergency and cardiology. Chinese-operated supermarket raided in Kenya Kenyan authorities have confiscated goods that are described as "substandard" at a Chinese operated supermarket in Nairobi. Surveillance teams from Kenya's certification body raided the supermarket on Wednesday and seized an assortment of goods which had not been labeled properly for the Kenyan market. The supermarket's owner has been given 14 days to appeal. Thereafter, all the seized goods will be destroyed. Australia's Tasmania to Provide Support for Chinese Antarctic Exploration China will work with the Australian province of Tasmania on future Antarctic expeditions. The Tasmanian Polar Network and the Polar Research Institute of China signed a memorandum of understanding on Thursday. Under the agreement, Tasmania will provide technical support for further Chinese explorations in Antarctica. The support includes repairs, maintenance, parts and equipment services for Chinese expeditions. US to Take More Refugees: Kerry Amid the intensifying migrant crisis in Europe, US Secretary of State John Kerry says his country will take in more refugees. Kerry made the statement on Wednesday after meeting with US lawmakers. He did not specify how many refugees the US is prepared to take in or when. Several people with knowledge of the meeting later said Kerry told members of Congress that the US would increase its global quota for refugees from 70,000 to 75,000 next year. British band Muse to rock Beijing and Shanghai next week British band Muse are set to rock Beijing and Shanghai next week. The band are known for using symphonies, choirs and synthesizers to create rock sounds. They have won countless awards for their live shows and are often referred to as Britain's best live band. The band boasts seven studio albums that have sold more than 15 million copies worldwide. One of their biggest moments came when they performed the song Survival during the 2012 Olympic Games in London. It will be their first tour of China.
