Famous Chinese director and comedian Stephen Chow made an appearance in Shanghai on Friday, promoting his upcoming film 'The Mermaid'.
He was joined by popular actor Deng Chao, and the new actress Lin Yun at the event.
Chow said he picked up Lin Yun as the titular character in the film from roughly 120 thousands candidates.
Earlier this month, Chow offered free ferry rides for all passengers in Hong Kong as part of the film's promotion.
Set in the modern world, this 3D film depicts the story of a biological professor, who was saved by a mermaid, and then falls in love with the mermaid.
The fantasy film, directed and written by Chow, is compared with James Cameron's Avatar, which is set in a real estate development project involving sea reclamation and threatens the livelihood of local residents.
Another big names staring in the film include Show Luo, Kris Wu, and Zhang Yuqi.
'The Mermaid' is scheduled to be released on the Chinese mainland, Taiwan and Hong Kong during the Lunar New Year, on February 8th.
