Shandong Luneng got their eighth AFC Champions League campaign underway with a landslide, 6-0 victory over Indian outfit Mohun Bagan.
Luneng dominated the game throughout. Walter Damian Montillo, Zheng Zheng, Diego Tardelli Martins, and Wang Yongpo all found the net. Yang Xu scored a double and had one assist.
New manager Mano Menezes and midfielder Carlos Gilberto Nascimento Silva both made their Luneng debut.
As third-place finishers of last season's Chinese Super League, Luneng have one more play-off before they can compete in the group phase of this year's AFC Champions League.
They are traveling to Australia for Adelaide next Tuesday, the same day when CSL runners-up Shanghai SIPG play either Thai or Malaysian opponents.
The AFC Champions League group games begin on February 23rd.
