China to maintain stable monetary policies: central bank governor
China's central bank governor has pledged to continue to implement stable monetary policies.
Speaking at the G20 Finance Ministers and Central Bank Governors Meeting in Shanghai, Zhou Xiaochuan says China will not "overly" plan its macroeconomic polices based on exterior economic performances or capital flow.
He says China has consistently opposed competitive currency depreciation, which has been used by some countries to boost export strength.
Zhou also noted that China has seen remarkable export numbers, and the country will not use "competitive depreciation" to further boost that sector.
IMF chief stresses structural reforms
The head of the International Monetary Fund is calling for structural reforms in every G20 economy to achieve stable and balanced economic growth.
Speaking at the G20 finance meeting in Shanghai, Christine Lagarde says China is not the only economy in need of structural reforms as they are fundamental for the success of every G20 economy.
She says reforms have become even more pressing given the disappointing state of the global recovery.
Lagarde is calling for urgent action from all G20 countries to not only boost economic potential, but also to boost confidence about the recovery and near-term growth.
UN resolution should not affect DPRK people's daily life: China
China says the UN Security Council's upcoming resolution on North Korea should not affect the everyday life of people in the country.
The United States has introduced a draft resolution to the council that would sharply enhance sanctions against Pyongyang for its recent nuclear test and rocket launch.
Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesman Hong Lei says the UN resolution should aim to prevent the North from developing its nuclear and missile programs, noting that the sanctions should not affect ordinary people.
He has also called for a return to dialogue and negotiation to seek a fundamental solution to the Korean Peninsula nuclear issue.
2 pilots killed in Nepal's air crash
Two pilots have been killed in a plane crash in Nepal.
The small plane was carrying 9 passengers when it crash-landed in Kalikot.
The passengers sustained injuries but are safe.
The incident comes just two days after the fatal air crash in the mountainous Myagdi district in which all 23 people on board were killed including a Chinese woman from Hong Kong.
Family of Chinese MH370 victim sue Malaysia Airlines
Two family members of a Chinese passenger on missing flight MH370 have launched civil action against Malaysia Airlines.
The claimants, family members of a passenger surnamed Wang, are demanding 4.7 million yuan, or about 723 thousand U.S. dollars, in damages.
The two-year deadline set by the Montreal Convention to file claims ends on March 8.
Flight MH370 disappeared on March 8, 2014, en route from Kuala Lumpur to Beijing with 239 people on board.
Most of them were Chinese nationals.
Residential building collapses in east China
Local sources says one person has died and at least one has been injured after a building collapsed in eastern China on Friday afternoon.
There were 30 households in the six-story building in Pingxiang city, Jiangxi province.
Rescue workers are searching for the missing.
According to locals, the old building next to a primary school was decades old.
The cause of the collapse is now under investigation.
China hospital heads sacked after hepatitis C outbreak
Two heads of a hospital in Shaanxi have been sacked after 26 patients contracted hepatitis C during dialysis treatment.
13 other staff at the Zhen'an Hospital have also been punished.
The patients are alleged to have contracted the virus earlier this month during hemodialysis sessions.
A preliminary investigation indicates that inadequate sterilization is likely to blame.
China reports sixth Zika case
Another Zika case has been confirmed in eastern China, bringing the total number of infected patients in the country to six.
The female patient in Zhejiang province was said to have been working in Surinam, where she was beaten by mosquitoes.
She returned to China from the South American country last weekend and was diagnosed with Zika on Friday.
Health authorities say her condition is stable.
China's Cabinet launches mobile app
China's State Council has launched a mobile app for information disclosure and public services.
The app will publicize major decisions by Chinese authorities, along with documents and policies by the State Council and important activities of State Council leaders.
Authorities hope the app can help make the government's information disclosure more transparent, and encourage the public to engage more with administrative affairs.
The app runs on both Android and iOS.
