Chinese authorities have urged North Korea to comply with UN resolutions and stop any action that might escalate tension on the Korean Peninsula.
Foreign Ministry spokesperson Lu Kang made the remarks after North Korea fired a missile early on Friday, in violation of UN Security Council resolutions.
The South Korean military says the North fired the Rodong ballistic missile off the country's east coast. It flew about 800 kilometers before falling into the sea.
Pyongyang's latest move is seen as a response to the ongoing joint South Korea-US military drills which are being held at an unprecedented scale.

Virgin Atlantic airlines has confirmed it's investigating claims of alleged racial abuse towards a Chinese passenger.
According to an online post, a Caucasian man started swearing at the woman, seemingly without any provocation or reason, and then threatened other passengers who attempted to stop the man's abusive behavior.
The Chinese passenger also claims that a flight attendant knowingly ignored the incident.
The attendant reportedly threatened to remove the Chinese passenger if she spoke of the incident again.

World football governing body FIFA has revealed its president's salary for the first time, saying it paid former head Sepp Blatter 3.8 million U.S. dollars last year.
FIFA also says it lost 122 million dollars in 2015 to record its first deficit since 2002 mainly because of the rising costs of battling a corruption scandal.
FIFA's total income in 2015 was 1.2 billion dollars and expenses reached nearly 1.3 billion with 61.5 million spent on what it calls "legal matters."
