China has made the final round of the Asia 2018 World Cup qualifiers after beating Qatar 2-0 on Tuesday.
The last time China was able to accomplish this feat was in 2001 with former coach Bora Milutinovic.
During a press conference, Gao Hongbo, current head coach of China's national football team, expressed thanks for all the support he has gotten from fans and his team.
"We've been working hard for the past nineteen days preparing to win these two games. I'm grateful for the work ethic of those who have helped the players keep in good physical condition and those who have aided our players in giving their best performance for these games. I'm also thankful for our players. They played well, as usual. Our national football team has strength. After 20 years of development, we have made progress in the strategy and tactics we use for our football matches."
Gao Hongbo also went on saying that, none of this would be possible without the support of Chinese football fans.
According to the rule of qualifiers, group winners and the top four second-placed teams will advance to the next phase.
The fight for more spots will continue on April 12th.
