Screening of domestic films has begun as part of the Beijing International Film Festival.
"Paths of the Soul," a film by Chinese director Zhang Yang, has been selected to open this year's domestic film section.
The film itself tells the story of a Tibetan man who spends a year climbing a sacred mountain to deliver the prayer of his dead uncle.
Zhang Yang began gaining attention after directing 2012's "Full Circle."
"Paths of the Soul" is one of 10 domestic films being screened as this year's Beijing International Film Festival.
This year's festival officially opens next Saturday.
Among those scheduled to attend the opening will be actress Natalie Portman and Tiantan jury head Brett Ratner, the director of "The Revenant."
A total of 15 films have been selected from among 400 entries from around the world to compete for this year's Tiantan Award.
