Coal consumption in China is expected to be about 4.3 billion tons annually by 2020, as the government pushes for cleaner and greener growth.
In the meantime, the coal industry will prioritize restructuring, which means cutting capacity and more mergers.
Official data also showed China's coal consumption decreased in the first quarter of 2016, reaching 910 million tons, down 3.7 percent year on year.
China aims to bring the share of non-fossil energy to 15 percent by 2020, while coal consumption will be limited to around 60 percent of energy use.
