Once upon a time there was a couple. They were very happy together. One evening they were sitting happily by the fire. Suddenly there came in a beautiful lady. She said to the couple, “ Don’t be afraid. I am a mountain-fairy. I come from a crystal castle in the hills. Now I will give you three wishes, any wish you have shall be fulfilled, but do remember to think carefully before you make wishes. Don’t be too hasty. You know, haste makes waste. “ Then the fairy disappeared. The couple got so surprised and excited. They began to think what wishes they could make.
On the next evening, while they were preparing dinner, the wife felt very happy with the lovely smell of the potatoes. She said, “ Oh! I wish we had a lovely sausage to go with them!” Oh dear! Now a big fat sausage was lying on top of the potatoes! Her husband saw this and cried out, “ You stupid woman! How could you use up our first wish so carelessly! I wish the sausage had grown on your nose.” Oh dear! Now the big fat sausage was stuck on the wife’s nose!
“Oh! No!” said the wife, “I wish the sausage disappeared!” Now the couple used up the third wish. They looked at each other sadly. How they wished the mountain fairy could come back!
