It is already on China's own list of state-level intangible cultural heritage entities, but since the city is quickly becoming an international metropolis, and international figures like UK Prime Minister David Cameron have all tried it, the city now thinks it is a good idea to include it in the UNESCO list. Chongqing hotpot was first eaten by boatmen on the Yangtze River in Chongqing, eventually spreading westwards to the rest of Sichuan province.
