More than 200 songwriters have submitted their work in a public competition to replace the current national anthem of Switzerland. The Swiss Society for Public Good has organised a contest to come up with a new, rousing national anthem, after the Swiss football team was outshined by their French rivals who belted out their own anthem with confidence and pride before their clash. "The Swiss Psalm", written by a monk and sometimes rediculed as the "Swiss weather report" because of its mention of the Alps, morning skies and misty valleys, is considered very difficult to sing, even for Swiss natives. An earlier survey suggested only 3 percent of the country's citizens could remember all four verses of the song. This is not the first time the Swiss have sought to change their national anthem. The previous anthem was ditched because it sounded much like the UK anthem, God Save the Queen.
