For decades, China's vain, young people have been complaining about the quality of the picture on their ID cards, but now at least in some parts of the country, people are getting the chance to improve their looks on the document.
沈阳市公安局负责人表示当地市民在拍摄身份证照片时,如果觉得相片不满意,可以提出重拍,而且如果时间允许,民警还会用软件帮着修片.
The Shenyang municipal bureau of public security says local residents who file for new ID cards may request the staff to take another photo if they are not satisfied. And if there is time, the staff may even edit the photo to make it look better.
Previously people have been asked not to use any looks-improving methods in their ID card photos, such as wearing make-up or accessories. But in the past, camera technology was too outdated to be flatering.
Many people hesitate to produce their ID cards to family members because they don't like their picture. Some even get into trouble because their pictures look quite different to the way they really look.
