China has released a guideline on urban planning in a bid to tackle the problems associated with increasing urbanization and the explosion of city sizes.
One part of the guideline specifies on establish open residential communities with links to public roads that can become part of the urban road system, leading to better utilization of urban land and optimization of the urban road network.
Background:
Many of urban communities in China are enclosed by buildings and walls, with security guards at entrance. Only residents and their guests are allowed in the compounds. Traffic has to go around those communities.
