The White Haired Witch of the Lunar Kingdom, a film adapted from Liang Yusheng's classic Wuxia fantasy novel, proves to be a new box office success.
The movie stars Fan Bingbing as the titular white-haired sorceress and Huang Xiaoming, who plays Zhuo Yihang, the handsome hero and leader of the Wudang martial arts school in a time of turmoil.
However, during filming, Huang got seriously injured in an accident. Let's follow XU Fei to hear what Fan Bingbing and Huang Xiaoming have to say about that incident.
The Chinese martial arts-fantasy 3D film has topped the Chinese box office on its four-day opening, bringing in nearly 220 million yuan, or some 35 million U.S. dollars.
The movie first hit the big screens around China last Thursday.
Chinese mainland actress Fan Bingbing plays Lian Nishang, a mysterious woman hiding out in a remote cave and can fight powerful Kungfu. Set in the Ming Dynasty in ancient China, it tells of the love story between Lian and Zhuo Yihang, a role played by actor Huang Xiaoming.
During filming, Huang Xiaoming had a three-meter fall after a wire accident on the set and he fractured two toes on his left foot. He had to sit in a wheelchair for weeks, but resumed filming even though he hadn't fully recovered yet.
Fan was recently asked to comment on Huang's much-publicized foot injury.
"We didn't expect that tragedy would have happened. I felt very miserable for him, since it was a quite chilly winter and our shooting location was in a suburb of Beijing. I witnessed his fall on hard ground suddenly and heard his shouting when I turned around amid shooting my part of martial art. Following that incident, when I was still unaware I was pushing my weight on his injured leg and foot as we rolled over each other along the side of a hill, the entire crew could even hear his outcry."
According to Hong Kong-born film director, Jacob Cheung, Huang Xiaoming really looked forward to playing Zhuo Yihang, as he felt the role really suited him very well.
Jacob Cheung also recalled that the stunt team had tested the scene more than 30 times before Huang Xiaoming got on the wires. Huang managed to do some 29 takes safely, but he wasn't satisfied with any of them, so he decided to do a few more. The unfortunate incident happened during the 32nd take. The problem was not in the wires, but the clasp.
Despite this tragedy, Huang Xiaoming explains how he has made something good out of a profoundly sad situation.

"I feel sad because I could hardly finish my part in my best mood. But what I feel good is that my crew members including the film director and all other main roles have given me their steady encouragement and help so that the filming could be successfully completed. Meanwhile, I feel happy for this is the first time for me to cooperate with film director Jacob Cheung. I've admired his works for some time. It's also my first experience in being a leading actor in a film with Fan Bingbing as the leading actress."
The 100 million-yuan budget fantasy flick also stars Vincent Zhao, Wang Xuebing and Ni Dahong.
