La Chauve-souris is a delightful two-act ballet based on Johann Strauss' world renown opera Die Fledermaus. La Chauve-souris is also a masterpiece by late French choreographer Roland Petit.
Petit is far from a petit figure in the ballet world. His achievements won him numerous honors internationally. The Chinese government honored him with the highest state award for his cooperation with the National Ballet of China ten years ago.
This French Fledermaus is an example of Petit's broad dance world as it mixes classical dance with the waltz, pantomime, Hungarian folk dance and even a French cancan.
Now the National Ballet of China is set to put this classic ballet piece on the stage in Beijing this month.
