Award-winning Chinese director Wang Quan'an, may be expelled from the China Film Directors' Guild, after he was detained on suspicion of hiring prostitutes.
Wang was caught buying sex from a 31-year-old prostitute from Heilongjiang province on September 10th, in an apartment in Beijing Dongcheng district.
Both are said to have admitted their guilt.
The White Dear Plain director is a long time member of the guild. But Chinese director Li Shaohong, who is Chairman, said the institution treats its members who have taken or engaged in acts of prostitution in equal manner.
Li said China Film Producers' Association, China Film Directors' Guild, China Television Actors Association, Chinese Society of Film and Literature, and China Film Association have collectively issued a notice calling for a cleaner showbiz, and they want to reiterate that for this incident.
Wang was working on a film 'The Bund' prior to his detention.
